5. Operation

5.1PoweringtheMeter
1. PressthePowerbutton momentarilytoswitchthemeterON.
2. PressandholdthePowerbuttonfor>1secondtoswitchthemeterOFF.
3. Ifthebatterystatusindicatorshowsthatthebatteryvoltageislow,orifthemeterdoesnot
poweron,chargethebattery.Seesection6.2BatteryCharging.Thebatterystatusindicator
isvisibleintheMainMenu
(pressthecenterSelectbuttontoaccesstheMainMenu).
4. Pleasefullychargethebatterybeforeuse.
5.1.1AutoPowerOFF(APO)
ThemeterswitchesOFFautomaticallyafteraprogrammedperiodofinactivity.Pressany
buttontoresettheAPOtimer.TodisableAPO,ortochangetheAPOtimeoutvalue,usethe
Settings
mode,accessiblefromtheMainMenu.Thedefaulttimeoutis20minutes.
5.2MoistureMeasurements
5.2.1MoistureMeasurementOverview
Moisturemeasurementscanbeperformedusingeithertheinternalpinlessmoisturesensor
(rear)orbyconnectinganexternalprobe.Astandardexternalpinprobeisincluded which
connectstotheMR160viathejackatthebottomofthemeter.Otherexternalprobesare
available;pleasevisit fordetails.
NOTE:Objectsincloseproximitytotheinte
rnalpinlessmoisturesensor(locatedontherearof
theunit)willaffectthereadingonthedisplay;Keephandsandfingersclearofthesensorwhen
takingmeasurements.
Theinternalmoisturesensordetectsmoisturetoadepthofapproximately19mm(0.75”).The
actualdepthwillvarydependingupontheamountofmoisture,thematerialundertest,surface
roughness,andotherfactors.
Moisturereadingsareshownonthedisplay(digitallyandwithbargraph)intheMoistureonly
modeorinsmalldigits(upperlefthandcorner)intheIR+IGMMoisturemode.SeeFig.51.
Pinlessmeasurementreadingsare‘relative’scaled(0~100).Pinbasedreadingsarerepresented
intermsof%MC(moisturecontent)forwoodand%WME(woodmoistureequivalent)fornon
