5 Operation and Stunning
When operating stunning plants the relevant provisions of the trade
association are to be observed. Moreover the provisions of the veterinary
offices, the EU and the animal welfare apply.
In principle, the FREUND-electric-stunner offer a choice of the following
stunning methods:
head and heart stunning,
head stunning.
killing (only STUN-E513 killing device).
5.1 Safety information
WARNING!
Risk of accident caused by insufficiently qualified
personnel.
Danger to life and risk of very serious injuries.
The stunning device may only be operated, serviced
and cleaned by instructed and authorised service
personnel.
Maintenance work on live components must only be
performed by trained electricians.
5.2 Personal protective equipment
To prevent injury, always wear the following personal protective
equipment:
Hand protection
Foot protection
5.3 Animal welfare
The harmonised laws of the EU and the German Animal Protection
Slaughter Regulation (TierSchlV) require careful treatment that prevents
pain, suffering or injury of the slaughter animals as the top priority.
Avoid causing the slaughter animals any excitement, pain or suffering
when driving, loading and stalling the animals.
Do not use electric stunners to herd animals.
Avoid causing stress to the slaughter animals prior to stunning so
that the level of excitement or injury is kept the absolute minimum.
