Before opening, switch off the device properly.

Unplug the device from the mains.
▶
Secure the device to prevent it being switched on again and affix a sign.

Using a suitable measuring instrument, ensure that electrically charged components
(e.g. capacitors) have been discharged.

Check that all potentials are de-energised.
