Please follow these guidelines when travelling with your notebook.
Before you travel
Travelpreparation s
• Back up important data stored o n your hard disk.
• Switch off the radio compo nent (Wireless LAN/Bluetooth/UMTS) for data security reasons. Data
traffic on a wireless connection can be intercepted by unauthorised third parties.
Information on activatin g data encryption is provided in the d ocumentation
for your wireless component.
• If you wish to use your notebook during a flight, first check with the flight
attendants if it is OK to do so.
When travelling in other coun tries
• If you are travelling abroad, check that the mains adap ter can be operated with the
local m ains voltage. If this is n ot the case , obtain the appropriate mains adapter for
your notebook. Do not use any other voltage converter!
• Check whether the local voltage and the specifications of the power cable are compatible.
If this is n ot the case, buy a pow er cable that matches the local conditions. Do not use
a connection adapter for electrical devices to connect the notebook.
• Enquire with the corresponding government office of t he country you will be
travelling in as to whether you may operate the radio component integrated in
your notebook there (also see "
CE marking", P age 66).
• If you use a modem, incom patibilities with the local telecommunications system may result.
This m ay result in poor performance, or the modem will not work at all.
You m ay require a country-speci fic telephone adapter (available as an accessory).
Transporting your notebook

• Remove all data carriers (e.g. CD) from the drives.
• Switch off th e notebook with th
e ON/OFF bu tton (see EasyG uide, "Sw itching off the notebook").
• Unplug the mains adapter an d all external devices from the power socket.
• Disconnect the mains adapter ca
ble and the da ta cables for all external devices.
• Close the connecto r covers.
• Close the LCD screen so that it lo
cks into place.
• If the device needs to be shipped, use the original packaging or other suitable
packaging to protect it from damage caused by misha ndling.
• To protect the notebook against
damaging jolts and bumps, use a noteb ook
carrying case to transport your
notebook.

• Protect the notebook from sever
e shocks and extreme temperatures (e.g. direct sunlight in a car).
