Using the energy saving functions

The notebook uses less power when the available energy-saving functions are used. You will
then be able to work longer when using the battery before having to recharge it.
The energy e fciency is increased and en vironmental pollution is reduced.
By choosing the best pow er options, you can make signicant savings and
at the same time help protect the environment.
When you fold down and close the LCD screen, d epending on the setting in Windows,
the notebook automatically enters a power saving mode.
We re commend the following settings:
Function Operating on AC pow er Operating on battery power
Turn off m onitor After 10 minutes After 5 minutes
Turn off hard disk(s) After 15 minutes After 10 minutes
Energy saving (S3) After 20 minute s After 15 minutes
Hibernate mode (S
4)
After 1 hour After 30 minutes
Set the energy savi
ng functions in your Control Panel.
Set the screen saver in your Control Panel.

Right-click on the desktop. Activate the screen saver by clicking on Personalize Change
Screen Saver.
If you need further information about an option, you can get help with most
settings by pressing
F1
to open the Microsoft Help.
When the notebook is in energy saving mode, the following must b e rem embered:
During energy saving mode, open data is held in m ain me m ory or
in a swap le on the hard disk.
Never switch the notebook o ff while it is in an energy sa ving mode. If the built-in battery
is nearly at, close all open les and do not go into energy s aving mode.
If you do not intend to use your n otebook for a long period of time:
Exit energy saving mo de if necessary by moving the mouse, making an entry at the keyb oard
or by switching on the notebook.
Close all opened programs and completely shut down the not ebook.
