2 Installation steps, overview
This chapter contains an overview of the steps necessary to install your server.
Links take you to sections where you can find more detailed information about
the respective steps:
Ê First of all, carefully read the safety instructions in "Important information" on
page 27 and following.
Ê Unpack the system, check the contents of the package for visible transport
damage and check whether the items delivered correspond to the details on
the delivery note (see "Unpacking the server" on page 42).
Ê The server includes loose parts. Keep these parts in a safe place. They are
designed to be used for installing optional components at a later time.
Ê Transport the server to the place where you want to set it up.
Ê Make sure that you have all necessary manuals (see "Further sources of
information:" on page 9); print out the PDF files if required.
Ê Mount the server into the rack (see "Installing/removing the server in/from
the rack" on page 43).
Ê Wire the server. To do this, refer to sections "Connecting devices to the
server" on page 53 and "Instructions for connecting/disconnecting cables"
on page 57.
Ê Connect the system to the mains (see "Connecting the server to the mains"
on page 55).
Ê Familiarize yourself with the controls and indicators on the front and rear of
the server (see section "Controls and indicators" on page 59).
