1.7 Motion Sensor (option)
The motion sensor measures ship’s pitching and rolling angles with a sensor, using the
principles of the gyroscope. Because it is free from error caused by ship’s vertical and
horizontal motion, it can be installed at any convenient location. However, ship’s
semi-permanent inclination due to loading imbalance cannot be detected. Compensate for
this as described in Chapter 3.
1.7.1 Mounting consideration
• Vibration in the mounting area should be minimal.
• Locate the unit away from areas subject to water splash.
• The ambient temperature should not exceed 50°C.
1.7.2 Mounting procedure
Orient the FORE mark on the unit toward the ship’s bow and mount the unit within 5° of
horizontal in all directions. For the offset, see Chapter 3.
