By convention, an induction motor consumes Watts and vars. This condition is displayed on the 469 as +Watts
and +vars. A synchronous motor can consume Watts and vars or consume Watts and generate vars. These
conditions are displayed on the 469 as +Watts, +vars, and +Watts, –vars respectively (see the figure below).
