GE MEDICAL SYSTEMS CT9800 QUICK SYSTEM
Rev. 14 Direction 18000
4-3-64
GUIDELINES FOR USAGE
The following are a few guidelines and warnings to remember when you are running service programs on the
Optical Disk subsystem.
WARNING: YOU CAN DESTROY PATIENT IMAGES (BY OVERWRITING IMAGE AREAS ON THE OD
MEDIA) OR DELETE IMAGE DIRECTORIES ON THE MDD IF THE PLATTER HAS NOT BEEN
CLOSED (AT M LEVEL). BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN USING THESE SERVICE
PROGRAMS AND BE SURE YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT EACH PROGRAM DOES
BEFORE EXECUTING IT. FORMAT AND OTHER PROGRAMS WILL DO EXACTLY WHAT
THEY ARE INTENDED TO DO!
Caution: The PURGE or PLATTER COMPLETION command closes the Optical Disk and makes it
READ ONLY! Once the media (or platter) is Purged, it can never be written to again even if
the optical media is blank. The PURGE function actually Moves or Purges all directory etc.
information from the MDD and writes the directories to the allocated space on the optical
media. After the Purge function is complete, the MDD directory area is empty and ready to
attach another platter.
Caution: Until the Optical Media is closed, the Optical Media and the Magnetic Media are married.
That is, neither contains all the information that has been stored on the magnetic.
Therefore, if the MDD is replaced prior to optical platter closing or purging, the information
stored is lost. Be sure to make all attempts to close the platter prior to performing any
work or parts replacement on the ODSS.
NEVER run DG’s DKINIT or ZETACO’s CSDKINIT programs on the MDD. This will write patterns to the
Optical Media and render the write once media useless.
“B” FORMAT MAGNETIC DISK -
“C” INSTALL ARZ FIRMWARE -
“D” INSTALL SCSI FIRMWARE -
“E” INITIALIZE (DKINIT) -
“I” INQUIRE THE DRIVE - This is an excellent tool to determine if communications between the
controller, MDD, and ODD exists.
“P” PLATTER COMPLETION - DO NOT USE THIS OPTION TO CLOSE CUSTOMER PLATTERS!
CUSTOMER PLATTERS MUST BE CLOSED USING M LEVEL
OPTICAL DISK SOFTWARE.
