DIA STATUS BIT DECODE
BIT NAME WHAT TO DO
11 Surface/Sector
Error
A Surface/sector Error was detected during a header check. This bit should
never be a 1. Possible problems are:
• ADAPTER 2 Board
• HEAD ANALOG Board
• SERVO CLOCK Board
• Bad HEAD
• Bad Disk pack
12 Verify Error Not normally used. This means there is a data error.
If this error with out the incorrect data being displayed, the problem is the
DATA CHANNEL INTERFACE Board.
If this error occurs with a data printout but NO ECC errors, the problem is:
• DATA CHANNEL INTERFACE Board
• ADAPTER 2 Board
• possibly DISK CONTROLLER Board, cabling between CPU Backplane and
Adapter, or cable between the 2 disk boards in the CPU.
If this error is accompanied by ECC errors, troubleshoot the ECC error first
(bit 8).
13 R/W Timeout A read/write operation never took place. This could be caused by one of
two reasons - either the command never got to the drive or the data never
came back. This could be caused by any circuit board, bad heads, bad disk pack
format or bad disk pack. Good Luck!
14 Data Late The FIFO overflowed or underflowed during a read/write operation. Most
likely causes:
• DATA CHANNEL INTERFACE Board
• DISK CONTROLLER Board
• Could also be caused by some other board in the computer.
15 Read/write Fault Logical OR of bits 6-14 or bit 15 of the DIB Status word. Gives no useful
troubleshooting information.
