DIB STATUS BITS DECODE
BIT NAME WHAT TO DO
0 Invalid Status The command channel is busy, ignore this status word. (Reference DIA
STATUS bit 0)
1 Reserved The drive is reserved by another computer. This bit should always be a 0. If it is
set, the most likely causes are:
• ADAPTER 1 Board
• DISK CONTROLLER Board
• Cabling from the CPU Backplane to the Adapter
2 Trespassed Another computer took control of the disk drive. This bit should never be a 1. If it
is set, the most likely causes are:
• ADAPTER 1 Board
• DISK CONTROLLER Board
• Cabling from the CPU Backplane to the Adapter
3 Ready This bit is usually set. A 01xxxx status word is usually DIB. If this bit is never
set, there is a problem communicating with the disk drive. (Reference the
possible causes for DIA STAUS bit 1).
4 Busy The drive is busy executing a previous command. This bit is usually a 0. It may
occasionally be set. If it is always set, the most likely problems are:
• DISK CONTROLLER Board
• ADAPTER 1 Board
• Cabling from the CPU Backplane to the Adapter
5 Offset The head position is offset forward or reverse. This bit is usually a 0. If set, it
does not indicate a fault, however our machine does not use this option. If the
offset write LED is ON on the DRIVE LOGIC Board, possible problems are:
• Adapter Power Supply
• DRIVE LOGIC Board
• DISK CONTROLLER Board
• DRIVE LOGIC Board
• Cabling from the CPU Backplane to the Adapter
• Cable from the Adapter to the DIsk Drive
6 Write Disable The DIsk Drive is not write enabled. This bit should never be a 1. If it is, the
most likely problems are:
• Disk Drive is write disabled
• DRIVE LOGIC Board
• ADAPTER 1 Board
• DISK CONTROLLER Board
• Cabling from the CPU Backplane to the Adapter
• Cable from the Adapter to the Disk Drive
