8-5 Artifact Troubleshooting Tips
There are many system problems that can induce image artifacts. In order for AutoSummary to provide a
definitive pass or fail result for the slope detector issues, your system must be in good working order, and any
outstanding image quality issues must be resolved. The following list is aimed at common causes of image quality
issues, and is not intended to be a complete guide for image artifact troubleshooting.
• Check system alignments (plane of rotation, beam on window).
• Check to make sure that detector temperature is within specifications.
• Inspect and clean mylar window, replace if damaged.
• Check the window strip on the detector, clean off any foreign matter with a soft cloth. (Dampen cloth with
small amount of alcohol or water if necessary).
• Run DAS Quiz and T/S suspect A/D’s. Replace questionable DAS boards.
• Re-do QCals and phantom cals.
• Remove and inspect collimator filter for damage.
Note that when you change DAS boards or redo alignments, change mylar window, etc., you must redo your
system QCals and phantom cals. This time-consuming process is necessary to insure that the system is at
optimum image performance.
