Using the Software:
The ACE disk or Winchester Disk does have to be formatted and have the software (microcode) properly loaded
before RDOS can be installed and the disk used for scanning. The procedures that follow describe how this is
accomplished.
The software for the ACE disk and controller are available on the tape:
• ACE General Diag. Tape 46-266949G5 (“G5” or later)
1) Mount the tape on the Mag Tape Drive and set the Drive On Line in High Density Mode.
2) Boot the Tape (Boot device 22):B 22 (MV7800) or 100022L (S140)
3) The Software Menu will be displayed as follows:
File# Program
2 GESCSI CONFIGURATOR
3 GESCSI FORMATTER
4 GESCSI INITIALIZER
5 MV7800 MICROCODE LOADER REV. xx
File Number? 5<CR>
File 5 is useful if you power down the MV7800 to add the second drive.
Execute this file to reload MV7800 Microcode.
Initial Installation:
On initial installation, the following sequence should be followed:
1) Configure as a Single or Dual Ace drive system, STD CT9800 or HTD.
2) Format the disk using the [A] Analyze option within the formatter program.
3) Run the Initializer using the [Z] ZDKINIT option.
4) Initialize the controller and disk and reload microcode before building RDOS.
Subsequent Periodic Maintenance:
Once the disk is installed and operating, nothing need be done unless you suspect disk related problems. If this
is the case, you can [A] Analyze the disk using the Initializer program or the Formatter program to see if any new
bad blocks are discovered. You may choose to run the Reliability program overnight, etc. However, after running
the Reliability program, you MUST run ZDKINIT once again to initialize the controller and disk and to reload
microcode.
Replacement of Controller or Disk Drive:
If a disk drive must be replaced, follow the procedure for Initial Installation.
