GLOSSARY
ABS This is the "absolute value" for the sensor also
known as the "raw reading" for the sensor.
ACGIH "American Conference of Governmental
Industrial Hygienists" This organization sets
guidelines for occupational exposure for vari-
ous gases.
AEL "Allowable Exposure Limit, refers to a refrig-
erant's toxicity level. Found on the refriger-
ant Material Safety Data Sheet. Also, PEL
Permisssible Exposure Limit.
ALL ACCESS MODE The user has complete access to the
menus of the monitor including SYSTEM
CONFIG MENU.
AL, ALM "Alarm"
ALARM DELAY This feature is designed to minimize false
alarms. It means the sensor must see gas
levels at or above the setpoint for this period
of time.
ASHRAE "American Society of Heating Refrigeration
and Elelectrical Engineers." This organiza-
tion sets guidlines for buildings and HVAC
machine rooms.
CAL "Calibrate"
CFC "Chloro Flouro Carbon" This is a class of
refrigerants.
CHECKSUM Mathematics summing of all the control
firmware locations. Indentical firmware chips
should have the same CHECKSUM.
COMM BAUD RATE This identifies the speed of the port
used in the communications.
COMMUNICATION STATION - The monitor has remote
communication capabilities. The monitors
can be linked together. Each monitor in the
network must have its own identification that
distinguishes itself from other monitors and
controls.
CMOS "Ceramic Metal Oxide Sensor", also referred
to as Solid State Sensors.
DLAY “Delay”.
DPDT "Double Pole Double Throw" This is a type
of relay with two independent poles. Each
pole (common) can be switched from normal-
ly closed contact to normally open contact.
ELECTRO-CHEM "Electro-Chemical Sensor" Chemical cell
sensor used to monitor for oxygen and ammo-
nia.
FAULT Used to display when an Electro-Chemical
Ammonia sensor needs to be replaced.
HCFC "Hydro Chloro Flouro Carbon" This is a class
of refrigerants.
HFC "Hydro Flouro Carbon" This is a class of
refrigerants.
LVL 1(2) "Level 1(2)"
K1A, K1B, ETC. "K" denotes alarm, "1" refers to the
alarm level (1 or 2) and "A" refers to the relay
pole for that alarm level (A or B),
KEY, BUTTON Keypad for menu and data access.
IN1(2) Setback dry contact input (1 or 2). IN1 also
activates time schedule.
IN CHANGE MODE The user can view as well as change
the settings, however the critical settings in
the SYSTEM CONFIG MENU cannot be
changed.
LATCH This feature allows the user to choose wheth-
er they would like an alarm condition to be
manually reset (latched) or reset automati-
cally (unlatched) when the alarm condition
clears. Some Sherlock units do not have this
function.
NDIR "Non-Dispersive Infrared" Sensors also
referred to as IR Sensors.
NH3 "Ammonia Sensor", Chemical Formula for
Ammonia.
OPEN Sensor reads OPEN when activated but not
wired to input "properly".
OXYGN SNR "Oxygen Sensor"
SETBACK This feature allows the sensors to operate
under alternate setting under certain circum-
stances.
SPT “Setpoint”
SNR “Sensor”
SPDT "Single Pole Double Throw" This is a type of
relay with one pole. The pole (common) can
be switched between normally open contact
and normally closed.
VIEW ONLY MODE - The user can view the settings in the
menu but cannot make any changes.
