Overview

This document describes the CANOFEA® automatic coffee and espresso machine with coffee bean grinder by Guy Demarle. It is designed for domestic use to prepare coffee beverages from whole beans, and to heat milk and water.

Function Description

The CANOFEA® machine is an automatic coffee and espresso machine equipped with an integrated coffee bean grinder. Its primary function is to prepare various coffee beverages, including Espresso, Lungo, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, and Milk Foam, as well as to dispense hot water. The machine grinds fresh coffee beans for each preparation, ensuring optimal aroma and taste. It features an automatic milk frother system for milk-based beverages, allowing for the creation of creamy milk foam.

Usage Features

The machine offers a user-friendly experience with a control panel featuring tactile buttons for various functions and beverage selections.

Getting Started:

  • Installation: The machine should be placed on a flat, dry, stable surface, away from damp rooms, sinks, hot surfaces, or heat sources.
  • First Use: Before initial use, all accessories (external drip tray, stainless steel grate, internal drip tray, coffee grounds container, water tank, and all milk accessories) must be cleaned. Protective films and packaging should be removed.
  • Switching On/Off: Pressing the ON/OFF button initiates an automatic rinse cycle (approximately a small coffee cup's worth of water) to clean the machine's circuits. The machine automatically switches off after a period of inactivity.

Daily Use:

  • Water Tank: The water tank should be filled with cold, fresh drinking water up to the "MAX" level daily. Never use warm, hot, carbonated water, or any other liquid. A flashing pictogram indicates a low water level.
  • Coffee Bean Container: Fill the container with whole coffee beans only. Ground coffee, instant coffee, freeze-dried, or caramelised beans can damage the machine. A flashing pictogram indicates low coffee beans. The container holds 150-180g of beans, sufficient for 3-4 days.
  • Beverage Preparation:
    • Espresso/Lungo: Place a cup under the height-adjustable spout. Select Espresso or Lungo. The machine grinds beans and dispenses coffee automatically.
    • Milk-based Beverages (Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, Milk Foam): Assemble the stainless steel milk jug lid and the automatic milk frother. Fill the milk jug with cold semi-skimmed or whole milk (around 5°C with at least 3% protein for optimal foam). Place a cup under the spout, adjust its height, and select the desired beverage. The machine dispenses milk first, then coffee (for Cappuccino/Latte Macchiato). The preparation process stops automatically.
    • Hot Water: Place a cup under the spout and press the Hot Water button.
  • Customizing Beverages: The machine allows users to save preferred beverage volumes (25-250 ml) for Espresso, Lungo, Hot Water, and Milk Foam. For Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato, milk and coffee volumes can be adjusted independently.
  • Grind Fineness Adjustment: The fineness of the coffee grind can be adjusted using a knob in the coffee bean container while the grinder is operating. Five grind settings are available, from fine (for stronger, more intense coffee) to coarse (for milder, slightly more acidic coffee). A medium setting (around 3) is recommended for a balanced coffee.
  • Operating Modes: The machine offers Default, ECO, and Fast modes. ECO mode saves energy, while Fast mode prepares coffee quicker (without pre-brewing/pre-infusion).

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for prolonging the machine's lifespan and ensuring optimal performance.

Daily Cleaning:

  • Drip Tray and Coffee Grounds Container: Empty and clean the external drip tray, internal drip tray, and coffee grounds container daily with clean water. A steady light indicates a full coffee grounds container, while a flashing light indicates it's missing.
  • Percolator: Open the service door, remove the percolator by pressing the orange release buttons, and wash it with clean water. Use the provided cleaning brush to clean the coffee grounds outlet channel.
  • Water Tank: Remove, rinse with fresh water, dry the exterior, and refill with potable water up to the MAX level.
  • Milk Accessories:
    • Automatic Milk Frother: Within 30 minutes of preparing a milk-based beverage, remove the milk connection hose, height-adjustable spout lid, and the automatic milk frother. Disassemble the frother into two parts and clean with hot soapy water, using the provided brush to remove residue from the circled area. Reassemble and reposition.
    • Stainless Steel Milk Jug and Milk Connection Hose: Empty and clean the milk jug and hose with warm soapy water. Remove the rigid tube, connector, and lid for thorough cleaning, using the spiral needle or brush to ensure holes are clear.
    • Milk Circuit: Place a large cup under the spout, fill the milk jug halfway with cold tap water, connect it to the machine, and press the Milk Foam button. The machine will dispense hot water and steam to clean the milk circuit.

Other Maintenance Operations:

  • Coffee Circuit Rinse/Manual Rinse Cycle: Perform a manual rinse cycle regularly (at least once a week) or after prolonged non-use. This involves simultaneously pressing the ON/OFF and Hot Water buttons for 5 seconds, which will cause the Milk Foam button to flash and dispense water from the coffee spout.
  • Self-Cleaning and Descaling (~20 min): When the descaling pictogram lights up, descaling is required (approximately once a month, depending on usage and water hardness). Fill the water tank to MAX, add a CANOFEA® descaling sachet (never use vinegar or other cleaning agents), and place a large container under the spout. Simultaneously press and hold the ON/OFF and Espresso buttons for 5 seconds. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • System Drainage Function: Recommended for long periods of non-use, protection against freezing, or before transport for repair. Fill the tank to 1/3, then simultaneously press and hold the ON/OFF and Lungo buttons for 5 seconds.
  • Cleaning the Machine: Unplug the power cord, discard water from drip trays, and clean water marks with a soft, damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaning agent.
