The carburetor is factory pre-set in order to
achieve optimum performance and meet
emission standards.
Throttle controlled ignition system
(TCIS)
Ÿ Adjust idle speed with the throttle stop
screw (1).
However in case of specific requirement of
tuning due to engine stalling in idle speed,
please follow the instructions given here
under:
Carburetor (idle speed adjustment)
IDLE SPEED: 1400 ± 200 R/MIN
Ÿ Warm up the engine and park the vehicle on
the main stand.
CAUTION
!!
Never adjust air screw (2). Air screw
adjustment is to be done only by Authorised
Hero MotoCorp workshop.
Throttle position sensor switch (3) alters the
ignition timing as per the throttle operation
and ensures optimum driving performance.
Valve clearance adjustment
Excessive valve clearance will cause noise, and
little or no clearance will prevent the valve
from closing and cause valve damage and
power loss. Check valve clearance at the
specified intervals (page 33).
Ÿ Remove the tappet covers (1) and cylinder
head left side cover (3) with gasket (2) by
removing the bolt/sealing washer.
If air screw is tampered it affects the overall
performance characteristics of the vehicle.

The checking or adjusting of valve clearance
should be performed while the engine is cold.
The clearance will change as the engine
temperature rises.
