flash module
A flash module (FMD) is a Hitachi custom-designed and manufactured
enterprise class solid state storage module. It uses a high performance,
custom ASIC flash controller and standard flash memory chips in an
implementation that exceeds the performance of expensive SLC SSDs,
but costs less than less expensive MLC SSDs.
free capacity
The amount of storage space (in bytes) that is available for use by the
host systems.
front-end director (FED)
The hardware component that processes channel commands from hosts
and manages host access to cache.
