8. MAINTENANCE
After a period of time, wear in some of the
moving components will occur. This re-
quires adjustment of those components.
The main spindle bearings are adjusted
at the factory. If end play becomes evi-
dent after considerable use, the bearings
should be adjusted.
See Figure 32:
Fasten the slotted nut A on the back of
the spindle, loosen the outer slotted nut
B. Adjust the slotted nut A until all end
play is taken up. The spindle should still
revolve freely. Fasten the slotted nut A
again and tighten the outer slotted nut
B.
CAUTION: excessive tightening or pre-
loading will damage the bearings!
See Figure 33:
The cross slide is tted with a gib strip
C and can be adjusted with screws D t-
ted with lock nuts E. Loosen the lock nuts
and tighten the set screws until the slide
moves freely without play.
Tighten lock nuts to retain the adjust-
ment.
See Figure 34:
The top slide is tted with a gib strip F
and can be adjusted with screws G tted
with lock nuts H. Loosen the lock nuts
and tighten the set screws until the slide
moves freely without play.
Tighten the lock nuts H to retain this ad-
justment.
See Figure 35:
The half nut engagement can be adjusted
