Configuring MD5 authentication for BGP
Perform this task to configure MD5 authentication between BGP peers. MD5 authentication verifies each
segment sent on the TCP connection between the peers. The BGP peers must be configured with the same
key to establish a TCP connection.
To configure MD5 authentication for BGP (IPv4):

1. Enter system view.

2. Enter BGP view or BGP-VPN
instance view.
• Enter BGP view:
bgp as-number
• Enter BGP-VPN instance view:
a. bgp as-number
b. ip vpn-instance
vpn-instance-name

3. Configure MD5
authentication for a peer or
peer group.
peer { group-name | ip-address }
password { cipher | simple }
password
By default, MD5 authentication is
not configured for any BGP peer.
To configure MD5 authentication for BGP (IPv6):
