Nice-to-know
Remote Copy operates at the block level as only changed blocks are captured in snapshots.
Snapshots are incremental: snapshots save only delta changes associated with the primary volume since the last
snapshot was created.
Remote Copy is robust. If the network link goes oine during the replication process, copying automatically resumes
when the link is restored.
Best practices
Test Remote Copy schedules to ensure the frequency of snapshots account for the amount of time required to complete
a Remote Copy.
Use HP StoreVirtual PrimeSync feature for large initial primary volume replications, especially for sites with slow WAN
interconnectivity.
Consider using MPLS VPN services to extend customer’s private network between primary and secondary sites.
Limit scheduling of Remote Copy to three concurrent tasks.
Conclusion
This white paper outlined the important aspects of a network designed for HP StoreVirtual 4000 Storage: Resilient
network design, low-latency networking, and iSCSI isolation from other services. When leveraging networking
features like jumbo frames and ow control, make sure these features are turned on end-to-end on the entire network
segment between application servers and HP StoreVirtual 4000 Storage. On storage systems, make sure bonding is
used to increase bandwidth and resiliency. Also, on application servers, use available multipathing options for optimal
performance and resiliency.
