Nice to know
In an active/passive bond conguration, the preferred NIC is the “active” and the other NICs are “passive.” When the active
link fails, then the status of the NIC becomes passive (failed) and one of the other NIC in the bond becomes active. This
conguration remains until the failed preferred interface is brought back online. When the failed preferred interface is
brought back online, it becomes “active” again and the other NIC returns to the passive state.
Separate management networks
On platforms with more than two network adapters, which are usually bonded for iSCSI and cluster communication, it is
possible to connect storage nodes to a separate management network. This allows the storage nodes to access network
services, which are not available on the iSCSI network, such as NTP, DNS or SMTP servers and SNMP trap receivers (HP
Remote Support, HP Systems Insight Manager). The additional network can also be used by administrators to perform
storage management operations using the HP StoreVirtual Centralized Management Console and CLiQ. The connection
to this management network segment can be established using a single network adapter or an additional bond on the
storage nodes. Figure 5 shows a management network which is separate from the storage infrastructure components.
