Charging a rundown battery
1. Raise the operator‘s seat and disconnect the
negative pole of the battery.
2. Open the cell caps and check level of the
electrolyte. The level should be at the lower edge of
the circle in the filler hole. Top up with distilled
water as required.
3. Allow the cell caps to remain open and charge the
battery using a 12 V battery charger at a
MAXIMUM rate of 6 ampere. Disconnect the
battery charger when the charging current is below
0.1 A.
4. Close the cell caps.
5. Connect the cable to the negative pole of the
battery and lower the operator‘s seat.

WARNING
Take care when handling the electrolyte.
It is hazardous, acidic and noxious.
Always wear protective goggles and
protect your skin when handling the acid
or the battery.
NOXIOUS, CAUSES SEVERE ACID
BURNS:
Contains sulphuric acid. Avoid contact
with the skin, eyes and clothing. As a
precaution against accidents, neutralize
surplus acid with sodium bicarbonate
(baking soda) and rinse the empty contai-
ner with water.
Charging a new battery
The battery is already filled with electrolyte on delivery.
The battery must be charged before putting the riding
mower into use. Charge the battery as follows:
1. Raise the operator‘s seat and disconnect the
negative pole of the battery.
2. Open the cell caps and check level of the
electrolyte. The level should be at the lower edge of
the circle in each filler hole. Top up with distilled
water as required.
3. Allow the cell caps to remain open and charge the
battery using a 12 V battery charger at a maximum
rate of 6 ampere for about 1 hour.
4. Close the cell caps and lower the operator‘s seat.
ANTIDOTE, EXTERNAL: Rinse liberally
with water.
ANTIDOTE, INTERNAL: Drink large
quantities of water or milk. Then swallow
milk of magnesia, beaten eggs or
vegetable oil. Ensure that the person
concerned receives medical attention by
a physician without delay.
EYES: Rinse liberally with water for 15
minutes and ensure that the person
concerned receives medical attention by
a physician without delay.
