The enclosure core product
The IBM ESS expansion design concept is based on an enclosure subsystem together with a set of plug-in
modules.
A typical enclosure system for direct dock comprises:
v An enclosure chassis comprising the following parts:
– Two sliding drawers containing Disk Drive In Carrier (DDIC) modules
– An operator’s (ops) panel
– A front bezel
– A midplane PCB into which other components connect
v Two Power Supply Units (PSUs).
v Five cooling modules.
v Two SBB I/O modules.
v Up to 84 Disk Drive In Carrier (DDIC) modules with drives installed.
v A rail kit for rack mounting.
