Chapter 5. Troubleshooting
The enclosure system includes a Storage Enclosure Processor (SEP) and associated monitoring and control
logic to enable it to diagnose problems within the enclosure’s power, cooling, PSU and drive systems.
Initial start-up problems
A number of issues can occur when powering on the enclosure.
Power fault
Ensure that you have wired up the enclosure system correctly and that mains power is present. Call your
supplier for replacements if any of the following situations occur:
v Cords are missing or damaged
v Plugs are incorrect
v Cords are too short
Host Computer Does Not Recognize Enclosure
ESS I/O server nodes do not recognize the enclosure.
Ensure that the enclosure is properly connected. See the approved cabling schema in the Cabling the
Elastic Storage Server Appendix of Elastic Storage Server Deploying the Elastic Storage Server Guide.
See subsection Disk Enclosure and HBA cabling in chapter Setting up IBM Spectrum Scale
RAID in the
Elastic Storage Server Spectrum Scale RAID Administration Guide.
LEDs
LED colors are used consistently throughout the enclosure and its components to indicate status
Green Good or positive indication
Flashing green or amber

Note: When the enclosure is powered on, all LEDs light up for a short period to ensure that they are
