POST beep codes
A beep code is a combination of short or long beeps or a series of short beeps
separated by pauses. For example, a ā1-2-3ā beep code is one beep, a pause, two
beeps, a pause, and three beeps.
When POST is completed, one beep is emitted to indicate that the server is working
correctly. If POST detects a problem during startup, other beep codes might occur.
See āBeep code descriptionsā to help diagnose and solve problems that are
detected during startup. If no beep code sounds, see āNo-beep symptomsā on page
18.
Beep code descriptions
The following table describes the beep codes and suggested actions to correct the
detected problems.
v Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem
is solved.
v See Chapter 3, āParts listing, Type 8863,ā on page 93 to determine which components are customer
replaceable units (CRU) and which components are field replaceable units (FRU).
v If an action step is preceded by ā(Trained service technician only)ā, that step must be performed only by a
trained service technician.
