Chapter 1. General description
The IBM Power 770 (9117-MMD) and IBM Power 780 servers (9179-MHD) use the latest
POWER7+ processor technology that is designed to deliver unprecedented performance,
scalability, reliability, and manageability for demanding commercial workloads.
The innovative IBM Power 770 and Power 780 servers with POWER7+ processors are
symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), rack-mounted servers. These modular-built systems use
one to four enclosures. Each enclosure is four EIA units (4U) tall and is housed in a 19-inch
rack.
The 9117-MMD and 9179-MHD servers introduce a processor card that houses four P7+
processors. The P7+ technology introduces increased performance over previous P7
processors.
