About this guide
This document defines preinstallation requirements for IBM XIV Storage System
models 281x-114, and 281x-214, and 281x-314. It is important to ensure that you
meet all requirements to ensure a fast and reliable installation.
If you cannot meet the installation requirements explained in this document, notify
your IBM representative to devise an alternative solution.

This section details updates made to the planning information for the IBM XIV
Storage System for this release and previous releases.
The following list describes updated made to the planning information for the IBM
XIV Storage System as of March 20, 2018.
v Added information of modem removal from certain regions (see “Rack
components” on page 11).
v Updated remote support information (see “Remote access through a dedicated

The following list describes updated made to the planning information for the IBM
XIV Storage System as of January 20, 2017.
v Added remote support connection information (see “Remote support for severe

v Added planning for relocation information for encrypted systems (see

The following list describes updates made to the planning information for the IBM
XIV Storage System as of December 4, 2015.
