Router Cooling and Airow Requirements
The router has front-to-back or airow out (AFO) cooling system. Air is pulled through the front of
the chassis toward the fan tray, from where it is exhausted out of the system. The power supplies are
self-cooling and are located in the rear of the router.
For the cooling system to funcon properly, the airow around the chassis must be unrestricted.
Allow at least 6 in. (15.2 cm) of clearance between side-cooled routers. Allow 2.8 in. (7 cm) between
the side of the chassis and any non-heat-producing surface such as a wall.
The power supplies are self-cooling and are located in the rear of the router. The exhaust for the
power supplies are also located on the rear of the chassis.
The rack or cabinet must have an adequate supply of cooling air. See Figure 6 on page 8.
