Refill Setup Procedures, Continued
Setting the
"Post Refill
Mode Delay"
This is an empirical procedure to set the Post Refill Mode Delay. The
purpose of setting this value is to minimize upsets to the mass flow of
product going into the process during and immediately after refill. The
default is 5 seconds and is OK for pelletized materials. For floodable
materials or liquids, the time will likely be longer. How do you
determine the correct value? Please follow this next procedure.
Step Action
1
Monitor either motor speed or Drive Command from the
controller. Be able to accurately record those values.
2 With the default setting in the Post Refill Mode Delay,
operate the feeder through a refill. Note the deviation of
motor speed or drive command during the time beginning
immediately prior to refill and ending a minute or so after
the unit has switched to Mass control. If you not an
unacceptable deviation, increase the time by a couple of
seconds and repeat the process. Continue this process until
you get no additional major improvement. If the time
becomes excessive, select a value that is in your mind a
reasonable compromise. Record that entry.
Cleaning or
emptying the
feeder hopper
To facilitate the emptying of the feeder hopper when in Automatic
Refill, select the "No Refill" selection for Refill Mode prior to the refill
system actuating. This will prevent a refill from occurring and permit
emptying of the feeder hopper.
