3. Push down on the right side of the glass flat and slide it to the right
until the glass flat slightly lifts away from the metal tray.
4. Holding the left side, gently pull the glass flat towards the left, taking
care not to twist or leverage the tip where it still touches the scanner.
and remove it from the scanner.
5. Check the glass flat for chips and scratches. If the glass flat is
chipped or scratched, replace the glass flat. See the section
entitled, “Supplies and Consumables” for catalog numbers and
ordering information.
NOTE: New glass flats should also be cleaned on both sides
before installation.
6. Carefully clean the front and back surfaces of the glass with a
Staticide wipe.
7. Wipe the front and back surfaces of the glass again with an almost-
dry Staticide wipe to remove any streaks.
8. Inspect the glass flat after cleaning to ensure all dust and residue
has been removed.
9. Reinsert the glass flat by inserting the left end first, gently pressing
down against the spring and guiding the tip about ½ inch (12.7 mm)
which allows the other end of the glass to swing down and rest
easily into the groove.
10. Gently slide the exposed tip ¼ inch (6.4 mm) to the right, guiding it
into its socket. The springs will press the glass flat against the
holder surface. Slide the glass flat left and right to ensure that it is
centered and seated properly.
11. Wipe the exposed surface of the glass flat again with the Staticide
wipe. Inspect the glass flat after cleaning to ensure all dust and
residue has been removed.
12. Close the scanner transport cover.
