Types of Documents to Avoid in the ADF
The following types of documents may cause jams in the ADF or may cause the ADF to feed more than
one sheet at a time. It is recommended that you use the flatbed to scan these types of documents:
Overhead projector sheets, other plastic films, cloths or metallic sheets
Paper with irregularities such as tabs, staples, paste and similar items
Documents with wet ink
Thick or irregular documents such as envelopes or documents that are glued together
Thermal or heat sensitive paper
Tracing paper
Copying paper such as carbon paper
Damaged or wrinkled documents
Photographs
Coated paper
Thick plastic cards such as credit cards or identification cards
Torn sheets and documents with notches or holes, or punched or perforated sheets
Extremely smooth or shiny paper
Paper that is highly textured
Paper with carbon sheets
Carbonless (NCR) paper
If a jam occurs in the document feeder, reduce the number of sheets loaded on the feeder to about 20.
If a paper jam or feeding of more than one sheet occurs, clean the rollers as described beginning on
page 79
.
If the document is not properly scanned, try one or more of the following procedures:
Scan the documents by feeding individual sheets manually into the ADF
.
Scan the documents with the flatbed
