TAN ratio
Kohler does not recommend any specific TAN for the lubricating oil to be used in KD diesel
engines.
However, the user must pay a particular attention to the TAN and ensures that the following
criteria are always true: TAN < TBN - 2mgKOH / g.
The following graph represents the influence of the TAN and the TBN on engine wear, repre‐
sented by the quantity of iron found in lubricating oil.
