13.11 Checking the steering head bearing play
Warning
Danger of accidentsUnstable vehicle handling from incorrect steering head bearing play.
Adjust the steering head bearing play without delay. (Your authorized KTM workshop will be glad to help.)

If the vehicle is operated for a lengthy period with play in the steering head bearing, the bearings and the bearing seats in the
frame can become damaged over time.
Preparatory work
Raise the vehicle with the center stand. ( p. 105)

Main work
Place a load on the rear of the vehicle.
The front wheel is not in contact with the ground.
Move the handlebar to the straight-ahead position. Move the fork legs back and forth in
the direction of travel.
Play should not be detectable on the steering head bearing.
» If there is no detectable play:
Adjust the steering head bearing play. x
Move the handlebar to and fro over the entire steering range.
It must be possible to move the handlebar easily over the entire steering range. There
should be no detectable detent positions.
» If detent positions are detected:
Adjust the steering head bearing play. x
