3.8 Hydraulic Fluid
WARNING!
Hydraulic fluid is pressurized! ALWAYS keep well away from any leaks or loose con-
nections while system is pressurized!
HYDRAULIC FLUID IS HOT! Always allow ample time for hydraulic fluid to cool
before changing or repairing leaks!
CAUTION!
Be sure to use the correct Lastec Hydraulic Fluid (part numbers listed below) in the
hydraulic tank! Check fluid level and quality daily! Incorrect fluid, inadequate fluid
level, or contaminated fluid will cause damage to the hydraulic system!
The Lastec Mower uses a specific type of oil in the hydraulic system. This oil is formu-
lated to prolong the life of the hydrostatic pumps. Lastec has developed a kit, which con-
tains (2) 2 1/2 gallon reusable containers of oil and (2) oil filters. This is enough oil and
filters for (2) complete hydraulic system oil changes (system capacity is approximately 7
quarts).
The 5 gal hydraulic oil kit part number is 049928.
A 2.5 gal hydraulic oil kit part number is 049929.
A quart of hydraulic fluid part number is 040642
With the engine turned off, check the hydraulic fluid level and condition. The hydraulic oil
tanks are located behind the operator’s seat on either side. Make sure the hydraulic oil
level remains FULL at all times. Do not overfill.
Inspect the entire hydraulic system for leaks. Areas to inspect include the motors and
pumps, the filter, tanks, and all hoses, clamps, and fittings, and the entire area under the
hydraulic system. If any leaks are discovered, allow ample time for the hydraulic fluid to
cool. Repair or replace the defective parts and re-fill the hydraulic system before operat-
ing the Lastec Mower.
