ordertostartyourcomputerandgetaccesstoyouroperatingsystem.
Changingorremovingaharddiskpassword
Tochangeorremovetheuserharddiskpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Followsteps1through7in“Settingaharddiskpassword”onpage55above,typingyourpassword
togetaccesstotheThinkPadSetupprogram.
2.SelectUserHDPandthendoeitherofthefollowing:
•Tochangetheharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.
ThentypethenewpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeld,andretypethepasswordyoujust
enteredtoverifyitintheConrmNewPasswordeld.PressEnter,andaSetupNoticewindowis
displayed.PressEntertoexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuserharddiskpasswordwillbe
changed.
•Toremovetheharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.
ThenleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblank,andpressEnter.
ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertoexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuser
harddiskpasswordwillberemoved.
Tochangeorremovethemasterharddiskpasswords,dothefollowing:
1.Followsteps1through7in“Settingaharddiskpassword”onpage55above,typingyourpassword
togetaccesstotheThinkPadSetupprogram.
2.SelectMasterHDPandthendoeitherofthefollowing:
•Tochangetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentuserharddiskpasswordorthecurrent
masterharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.Thentypethenewuserharddisk
passwordintheEnterNewPasswordeld,andretypethepasswordyoujustenteredtoverifyitin
theConrmNewPasswordeld.PressEnter,andaSetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEnter
toexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuserharddiskpasswordwillbechanged.
•Toremovetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnter
CurrentPasswordeld.ThenleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordelds
blank,andpressEnter.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertoexitfromtheSetup
Noticewindow.Boththeuserandmasterharddiskpasswordswillberemoved.
Supervisorpassword
ThesupervisorpasswordprotectsthesysteminformationstoredintheThinkPadSetup.Withoutit,noone
canchangethecongurationofthecomputer.Itprovidesthefollowingsecurityfeatures:
•Ifasupervisorpasswordisset,apasswordpromptappearswhenyoutrytostarttheThinkPadSetup.
Unauthorizeduserscannotgetaccesstocongurationdata.
•Thesystemadministratorcanusethesupervisorpasswordtogetaccesstoacomputereveniftheuserof
thatcomputerhassetapower-onpassword.Thesupervisorpasswordoverridesthepower-onpassword.
•Ifbothasupervisorpasswordandapower-onpasswordareset,youcandothefollowingonlyifyou
havethesupervisorpassword:
–Deletingthepower-onpassword
–Changingordeletingthesupervisorpassword
–EnablingordisablingtheWakeonLANfeature
–EnablingordisablingtheInternalNetworkOptionROMfeature
–Changingdateandtime
–EnablingordisablingtheLockUEFIBIOSSettingsfeature
