RAIDsetupisdisplayed.
ThefollowinglistdescribestheitemsinthemainwindowforSASRAIDsetup:
•CreateIMVolume:CreatingRAID1oftwoharddiskdrives.
RAID1usesmirroringsothatdatawrittentoonedriveissimultaneouslywrittentoanotherdrive.Thisis
goodforsmalldatabasesorotherapplicationsthatrequiresmallcapacitybutcompletedataredundancy
ifonedrivefails.Thedatacanbereadfromthetwoharddiskdrivesatthesametimetoimprovethe
speedofreadingtheharddiskdrives.RAID1onlysupportsevennumbersofharddiskdrives.
•CreateIMEVolume:CreatingRAID1Eofatleastthreeharddiskdrives.
RAID1Estoresdataonallharddiskdrivesthroughstripedmirroring.RAID1Esupportsoddnumbersof
harddiskdrivestoformanarray,whileatleastthreeharddiskdrivesarerequired.
•CreateISVolume:CreatingRAID0oftwotoeightharddiskdrives.
RAID0usesstripingtoprovidehighdatathroughput,especiallyforlargelesinanenvironmentthatdoes
notrequirefaulttolerance.RAID0breaksupdataintosmallersegments.Itcanimprovereadandwrite
speed.However,sincethereisnodataredundancyfeature,alldatawillbelostifanydrivefails.

CongurationUtilityprogram.
CreatingtheRAID1array
ThissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtocreateRAID1usingtheLSICongurationUtilityprogram.
TocreateRAID1,dothefollowing:
1.IntheSASRAIDsetupmainwindow,selectCreateIMVolumeandpressEnter.TheCreateNew
Arraywindowopens.
2.SelectNoundertheRAIDDiskcolumnfortherstharddiskdrive.Then,presstheSpacekey.
3.Whenprompted,selectMtosettherstharddiskdriveastheprimaryharddiskdrive.
Note:Ifyouwanttosettherstharddiskdriveastheslaveharddiskdrive,selectD.
4.PressMtogobacktotheCreateNewArraywindow.SelectNoundertheRAIDDiskcolumnforthe
secondharddiskdrive.Then,presstheSpacekeyandawarningmessagewillbedisplayed.Pressthe
SpacekeytogobacktotheCreateNewArraywindow.
5.PressCtocreatethearrayandselectSavechangesthenexitthismenuwhenpromptedtosave
changesandexit.
6.Aftercreatingthearray,youcanselectRAIDPropertiesintheAdapterPropertieswindowandpress
EntertoaccesstheSASRAIDcongurationmainwindowandviewthearrayinformation.
