eachtimeyouturnonyourserver.TheUEFIBIOSisalayerofsoftwarethattranslatesinstructionsfrom
otherlayersofsoftwareintoelectricalsignalsthattheserverhardwarecanexecute.Youcanusethe
SetupUtilityprogramtovieworchangetheconfigurationsettingsofyourserver.See“UsingtheSetup

Notes:
•UpdatetheBIOSonyourserveronlyifthenewerBIOSversionspecificallysolvesaproblemyouhave.
WedonotrecommendBIOSupdatesforserversthatdonotneedthem.Youcanviewtheupdated
informationforthenewBIOSversionintheinstallationinstructionsfortheBIOSupdatepackage.
•DowngradingtheBIOStoanearlierversionisnotrecommendedandmightnotbesupported.Anearlier
BIOSversionmightnotsupportthelatestsystemconfigurations.
•IfthepowertoyourserverisinterruptedwhilethePOSTandBIOSarebeingupdated,yourservermight
notrestartcorrectly.EnsurethatyouperformtheBIOSupdateprocedureinanenvironmentwitha
steadypowersupply.Besides,ensurethatyourservercanrestartsuccessfullywithoutencountering
hardwareproblems.
•IfyouhaveupdatedtheBIOSfirmware,alltheBIOSsettingsbecomethedefaultsettingsoftheupdated
BIOSversion.YouneedtocheckandreconfiguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecificneeds.You
alsocanrecordyourspecificBIOSsettingsbeforeupdatingtheBIOSforaneasierreconfigurationin
thenewBIOSversion.

2.DownloadtheBIOSupdatepackageandtheinstallationinstructionsinaTXTfile.
3.PrinttheTXTfilethatcontainstheinstallationinstructionsandfollowtheinstructionstoupdate(flash)
theBIOS.
4.CheckandreconfiguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecificneedsbasedonyournoteorreferto“Using
theSetupUtilityprogram”onpage23.
RecoveringfromaBIOSupdatefailure
IfthepowertoyourserverisinterruptedwhilethePOSTandBIOSisbeingupdated,yourservermightnot
restartcorrectly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingproceduretorecoverfromthePOSTandBIOS
updatefailure.ThisprocedureiscommonlycalledBoot-blockRecovery.
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage41.
3.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Locatingpartsonthesystem
board”onpage17.
4.RemoveanycablesthatimpedeaccesstotheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumper.
