1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines (see “Safety” on page iii and “Installation
Guidelines” on page 51).
2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the
server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

To install the CMOS battery, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Follow any special handling and installation instructions that come with the replacement battery.
Step 2. Face the positive (+) symbol to the center of the server; then, place the battery into the seat until it
clicks in place.

After installing the CMOS battery, complete the following steps:
1. Reinstall the system board air baffle (see “Install the system board air baffle and the power interposer”
on page 118) or processor and memory expansion tray and expansion tray air baffle (see “Install the
processor and memory expansion tray ” on page 111).
2. Reinstall the top cover (see “Install the top cover” on page 131).
3. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.
4. Install the server in the rack.
5. Power on the server and any peripheral devices.
