Technical rules for PCIe slots
PCIe adapters must be installed in a specific order based on the CPU configuration that you implement on
your server.

Two processor installed: 9, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
Notes:
• ThinkSystem RAID 940-32i 8GB Flash PCIe Gen4 12Gb Adapter can only be installed in slot 9 in one CPU
configurations, and installed in slot 9, 5, 6, 7, or 8 in two CPU configurations.
• GPU RTX A6000 can only be installed in PCIe slot 1, 3, 5, and 7. PCIe slot 2, 4, 6, and 8 will be left
unoccupied.
• Mixing GPUs in the same zone are not supported:
– When a GPU is installed in PCIe slot 1, 2, 3, or 4; only the same GPU can be installed in PCIe slot 1, 2,
3, or 4.
– When a GPU is installed in PCIe slot 5, 6, 7, or 8; only the same GPU can be installed in PCIe slot 5, 6,
7, or 8.
• When a RTX A6000/RTX 4000 GPU is installed in PCIe slot 1, 2, 3, or 4; RAID/HBA adapters cannot be
installed in PCIe slot 1, 2, 3, or 4.
• When a RTX A6000/RTX 4000 GPU is installed in PCIe slot 5, 6, 7, or 8; RAID/HBA adapters cannot be
installed in PCIe slot 5, 6, 7, or 8.
Technical rules for system fans
Fans must be installed in a specific order based on the configuration that you implement on your server.
Your server supports two types of fans:
• Single rotor 9238 hot-swap fans
• Dual rotor 9256 hot-swap fans
