MAINTENANCE 6
6
Wash the motorcycle with water, a mild detergent
and a sponge. Wipe the vehicle with a soft cloth.
Use an air jet to dry difficult-to-reach areas.
CAUTION
• Avoid using clothes or sponges that
have been in contact with strong or
abrasive detergents, solvents or gaso-
line.
• To avoid irreparable damage to the
front fairing, never use alkaline or
strongly acid detergents, petrol, brake
fluid or other solvents. Clean the front
fairing only with a soft cloth, warm water
and a neutral detergent.
Periodically treat the paintwork with high quality
wax. After riding on roads treated with corrosive
substances (salt), wash the vehicle as soon as
possible with cold water. Do not use hot water as
it enhances the corrosive action.
WARNING
Avoid smearing brakes or tyres with oil
or wax. If necessary, clean the brake
discs with a brake disc detergent, and
wash the tyres with warm water and a
neutral detergent.
WARNING
The presence of water on the brakes can
lead to a decrease of the braking effecti-
veness with subsequent risk of acci-
dents. After completing the washing, run
the engine for a few minutes and start off
at reduced speed. Carefully apply the
brakes a few times so as to dry the brake
pads and discs.
WARNING
The drive chain must be correctly lubri-
cated after washing the motorcycle, fol-
lowing the instructions provided at §
6.11. of this manual.
