VLAN membership for a LAN, WiFi network,
or port
By default, each LAN and each WiFi network is a member of a preset VLAN (see How
the router organizes LANs, VLANs, and WLANs on page 74). By default, each port is a
member of VLAN 1, the Default VLAN.
You can change the VLAN membership for a LAN, WiFi network, or port.
CAUTION: Be sure that you fully understand the consequences of changing a VLAN
membership. Incorrect configuration might cause network problems, such as traffic
being discarded.
Change the VLAN profile for a LAN
You can change the VLAN profile for a LAN. Note the following:
•
The VLAN profile for LAN 1 is set and you cannot change it.
•
If a LAN is assigned to a VLAN profile, you cannot assign another LAN to the same
VLAN profile.
This also means that you cannot change the preset VLAN profile for LAN 2, LAN 3,
and LAN 4 until you add a new VLAN profile (that is, a custom VLAN profile) and
assign LAN 2, LAN 3, or LAN 4 to it. Doing so releases the preset VLAN profile so
that you can assign a different LAN to it.
•
If an Ethernet port and a LAN are assigned to same VLAN profile, you cannot change
the VLAN profile for the LAN until you assign the Ethernet port to a different VLAN
profile.
