RS-232 – RS-232 though capable of communicating complex control strings has limitations in its
overall transmission length. Typically RS-232 runs should be limited to about 50’. The cable is a
nine conductor cable terminated with a DB9 connector. A finished cable of appropriate length is
recommended for this application. DB9 Serial cable. Pin out: Pin 2=Tx, Pin3=Rx, Pin 5=GND.
Feature Buss – This port is currently inactive. It will provide future control expansion and
capability. Periodically visit www.nexusaudiosystems.com
for updates.
Trigger – Pull two conductor stranded wire to a voltage sensing device to be controlled by the C-
6. Terminate with the included two terminal plug-in screw connector at the head end. Terminate
as appropriate for device to be controlled. 20AWG up to 500’; 18AWG up to 1000’. Non-shielded
preferred.
CONNECTING THE CONTROLLER
When connecting source components, or making any connections, be sure that the C-6 Controller
and all system devices are turned OFF and disconnected from AC power to prevent electrical
shock and to avoid possibly damaging components.
Source Components
Audio/Video – Use one quality RCA to RCA type audio/video cable with gold plated connectors
for each A/V source component. Use a stereo cable if the source is audio only. Connect the LEFT
and RIGHT audio outputs and COMPOSITE VIDEO output of each source component to the
LEFT and RIGHT audio inputs and COMPOSITE VIDEO inputs on the C-6 Controller for sources
1-5.
Zone Connections
Keypads/Speakers
As described in the section on Wiring, the Speaker/Keypad Terminals are specially configured for
Phantom Control that combines speaker level audio signals, keypad control signals and power for
the keypads all on the same wire. Special care must be used in making the Speaker/Keypad
connections.
1. Using four conductor stranded wire, strip approximately ¼” of insulation from each conductor.
Twist the strands until tight.
2. Connect the bare wires to the plug-in four terminal screw connectors included with the C-6
accessories. Be sure to maintain proper polarity from the RIGHT+, CONTROL, COMMON and
+LEFT terminals for each zone output. Be sure there are no loose strands sticking out that
could cause a short.
Video
Connect Zone Video Out to quad shield coaxial cable for any zone with a TV or video display.
Tuner
Antennas
FM 75 OHM– Use the included 75 ohm antenna. Connect to the 75 ohm F-type FM Antenna
terminal. Spread the ‘arms’ of the antenna and attach as high as possible on the back of a wall
unit or equipment rack as possible for best reception.
AM – Use the included AM loop antenna. Connect to the AM Antenna two position spring clip
terminal. Polarity is not critical. Position as needed for best reception.
IR Emitters
Sources 1-5 – Use any standard IR emitter with a 3.5mm mini-phone plug for each source
component. Plug emitters into appropriate source IR output jack for sources 1-5. (If the CD player
is source 1, plug the emitter for the CD player into the emitter jack for source 1.) Polarity: Tip =
signal; sleeve = ground.
