A. Valve spring length
Replace valve springs if not within specifications.
Valve Spring Installation
For installation, reverse the removal procedure.
Pay attention to the following deta11s.
Colored area of the valve spring must be placed on
top.
To ease installation of cotters, apply oil or grease
on them so that they remain in place while
releasing the spring.
NOTE: Valve cotter must be properly engaged in
valve stem grooves.

After spring is installed, ensure it is properly
locked by tapping on valve stem end with a soft
hammer so that valve opens and closes a few
times.
NOTICE An improperly 1ocked valve spring will
cause engine damage.
VA LVES
Valve Removal
Remove valve spring, see VALVE SPRING in this
subsection.
Push valve stem, then pull valves (intake and
exhaust) out of valve guide.
1. Intake valve 31mm
2. Exhaust valve 27 mm
Remove valve stem seal and discard it

YA 8230)
Valve Inspection
Whenever valves are removed always inspect
valve guides. Refer to VALVE GUIEDS in this
subsection.
