Performing A Test
·
Instructing the test subject: The general instructions below can teach the operator and test
subject basic steps to follow during the fit test. Follow all applicable regional and industry-
specific guidelines or regulations.
o If the respirator has an inhalation valve at the place where a fit test adapter will be
connected to the respirator, it must be removed or propped open.
o When the test subject is ready, connect the tube assembly to the adapter(s). (For some
respirators it is easier to attach the
tubes before the adapter is
mounted onto the mask, and some
are easier before the adapter is
mounted onto the mask. Please
choose accordingly.)
o The blue tube goes to the single
port.
o The gray and clear tubes go to the two
ports that are located side by side. It
does not matter which tube is
connected to which of these two
connectors. See Appendix F for
more information.
·
Performing the fit test: After selecting
or adding a person to the database, the
test can begin.
o Explain the test to the test subject:
·
This test consists of five steps that will measure any leak into the respirator. (16 steps
for HSE regulation.) See Regulations for a list of the test steps.
·
During each step, the test subject will be given instructions to be in a specific position
for the test, and a possible action to perform before the test step begins.
o Initiating the test step:
·
If the auto-start feature is turned on:
§
Instruct the test subject to take a comfortable breath and hold it when the circle in
the lower right corner turns green.
§
The test will begin automatically.
§
If the test does not start automatically, depressing the green button will initiate the
test.
