Rev. 3.1
5. Connect the PMT signal cable leading from the back of the PMT housing
assembly to the PMT signal connector on the back of the Detector Controller
(see Figure 2.4).
6. Connect the ignitor assembly cable (Part #282624) leading from the detector
cap to the 3-pin ignitor connector on the back of the Detector Controller (see
Figure 2.4).
7. Connect the appropriate signal out cable to the channel 1 and channel 2
connectors on the back of the Detector Controller. Connect the opposite end
of this cable to the appropriate connector on the chromatographic data system
signal input. See Chapter 8, “Replacement Parts,” for the part numbers of the
signal output cables.
8. Connect the 3-pin male connector on the remote start cable (Part #288902,
included in the PFPD Start-Up Kit) to the remote start connector in the back
of the Detector Controller (see Figure 2.4). The other end of this cable con-
nects to the GC’s remote start connector.
9. With the Agilent 6890 GC, connect the 2-pin female connector on the remote
start cable to the 2-pin male “VLV 8” connector on the external event cable
(Part #252569, included in the PFPD Start-Up Kit) that plugs into the 8-pin
MINI-DIN connector marked “EXT EVNT,” located on the back of the GC.
Valve 8 will need to be programmed as an “External Start” event in the
Agilent 6890 GC (see the Agilent 6890 Series Gas Chromatograph Operating
Manual).
10. With the Agilent 5890 GC, connect the 2-pin female connector on the remote
start cable to the 2-pin male connector on the handshake cable (Part #185868,
included in the PFPD Start-Up Kit). Connect the handshake cable to the 12-
pin connector marked “REMOTE,” located in the plastic tray over the elec-
tronics compartment to the right of the GC.
11. Connect the serial cable (Part # 226621, included in the WinPulse software box)
from the PC to the Serial I/O port on the Detector Controller (see Figure 2.4).
Installing the Pneumatics
The pneumatics associated with the PFPD and Agilent 6890 GC can have one of
the following configurations: (1) The manually controlled pneumatics are con-
tained within the Detector Controller housing and are operated with gas flow
controllers on the front of the Detector Controller. (2) The pneumatics are con-
tained within the pressure control manifold (PCM) in the back of the Agilent 6890
GC and are operated through the GC’s electronic pressure controller (EPC).
Follow the relevant method for setting up the pneumatics configuration in your GC.
!
CAUTION: The
maximum
pressure into the
Detector Control-
ler must not
exceed 90 psig.
