Cleaning the Cylinders and the Sampling Chamber
. Cleaning the Cylinders and the Sampling Chamber
Clean the surface of the CASY Instrument regularly using a damp microber cloth. It is important to
remove salt solution spillages in the instrument immediately. To do this, raise the sample platform
and remove it by pulling forwards. Use 80% ethanol to remove organic impurities. Under no circum-
stances, however, should other organic solvents be used.
. How to take the CASY Instrument Out of Operation
If your CASY System will not to be operated for several weeks, the uid system should be drained.
Before shutting down, the uid system must also be cleaned (see Chapter 4.1, Weekly Cleaning Rou-
tine). Please always follow this procedure to shut down the system:
1
Carry out steps 1 to 10 of the Weekly cleaning routine.
2
Replace the two CASY cups containing distilled water with two empty CASY cups.
3
Select the Service Menu option from the main menu.
4
Perform the Dry Liquid System command from the Service Menu.
5
Empty the waste container and the two CASY cups.
6
You can now switch o your system. To make sure that the instrument is completely shut down,
disconnect the power cable from the power inlet.
7
Ensure that the system is adequately protected from dust for the duration it is shut down.
8
You should begin the Start-up procedure with the Weekly cleaning routine.
You must ensure that when the uid system of the CASY Instrument contains a saline solution, it
is not allowed to dry out. This is very important to prevent malfunction and damage to the uid
system and valves caused by salt crystals.
