5.1.4 PG11 Function check with the “Remote Gas Test kit”
For gas testing of detectors mounted high up or another not easily reachable location. Kit
consists of a “Gas nozzle” on the nose of the detector and a “Gas test box” to be mounted at a
suitable location. In between the Gas nozzle and Gas test box there will be a gas pipe to allow
for the gas to flow from the Gas test box and into the Gas Detector through the Gas nozzle.
Requirements:
● PG11 should be fitted with the Environment Shield especially if there is any wind.
● Gas cylinder with same type of gas as Detector is rated to detect
○ Concentration of test gas shall be above 40%FS
○ Flow rate of minimum 2 liters/min.
● Flexible gas hose
Procedure:
1. Connect the test Gas cylinder to the Gas test box (illustrated below).
2. Apply the gas from the Gas cylinder.
3. Observe that the detector indicator is showing a gas alarm or that a gas response is
received at the site gas detection system. This might take several minutes depending
on gas flow and the length and diameter of the gas line.
4. With a response of more than 20 %FS the Gas Detector has passed the test.
