Accessory Drive Belts
You can extend the reliability and service life of your vehi-
cle’s drive belts with proper attention to installation,
adjustment, and maintenance. Neglect could cause belt
failure. The result could be the loss of the electrical or air
system as well as possible engine damage from overheat-
ing. So it’s a very good idea to check your belts frequently
and replace them as soon as you detect trouble.
Follow this procedure to install an accessory drive belt:
1. Route the new belt around the pulleys, and then
rotate the automatic tensioner so that the idler pulley
swings toward the belt routing. Refer to figure below
an example of the rotation direction to release the ten-
sioner.
