North American wire sizes (AWG) are based on NEC/NFPA-70 for ampacities of thermoplastic-insulated
(75ºC) copper conductors assuming not more than three current-carrying conductors in raceway or cable,
based on ambient temperature of 30ºC.
The wire sizes allow for an ampacity of 125% of the rated input and output amperes for motor branch-
circuit conductors as specified in NEC/NFPA-70.
