5.9 Pushing the wheelchair
The motors must be disengaged using the freewheel lever, in
order to push the wheelchair. This feature was developed for
the a endants of wheelchair users and also func• ons as an
emergency freewheel lever.
The freewheel lever has 2 posi ons:
1. For driving the wheelchair.
‘Drive’ posi• on: Turn the lever so that the lever at the drive
wheel side is posi• oned as shown in Fig. 5.4.
2. For disengaging the motors.
‘Freewheel’ posi• on: Turn the lever so that the lever at the
drive wheel side is posi• oned as shown in Fig. 5.5.
DANGER!
The free wheel lever should only be operated by the
a• endant and never by the user.
A user may never be le! una• ended while the wheelchair is
in ‘freewheel’.
Never set the lever to the ‘freewheel’ posi• on on a
slope" When the lever is set to ‘freewheel’, the automa• c
parking brake is deac• vated. This makes it possible for the
wheelchair to roll down the slope. (Fig. 5.5)
The automa• c parking brake only works if the lever is set to
drive’ posi• on.
When the wheelchair is no longer being pushed, the lever
should be set to ‘drive’ immediately.
To manually push the system you must release the motor
brakes.
There are speci# c labels located on the motors describing
this process. (Fig. 5.6)
Do not engage or disengage motor brakes unless power to
the system is o$ .
Make sure you have full control over the system when you
release the motor brakes.
Make sure the system is on level ground before you release
the motor brakes.
Propel this system by the push handles only. They provide
secure points for you to hold the rear of the system to
prevent a fall or • p-over.
